28mm ACW

28mm ACW Odds & Ends

Here are the last bits of odds and ends that I painted over the Holidays. I avoided painting any large units during that time, and tried to focus on things that I could get done quickly. Well, those days are over and  I currently have a large 28mm Federal infantry unit on my painting table, but here are some pics of the small stuff!

Dixon stretcher bearers and wounded soldier. I enjoy painting these kind of figures that add a little character to a game.

Overhead shot: A wounded Federal infantryman being carried to the rear.

Time for a drink! A 28mm Dixon figure takes a break during a lull in the fighting.

A wounded Confederate officer. The red base designates a "routed" unit in "Johnny Reb".

A wounded Federal soldeir. Again, a "you can't miss it" routed marker for my favorite set of ACW rules!

The 30th Annual Seven Years War Convention

The 30th Annual Seven Years War Convention

Dean West's 15mm SYW "Final Argument of Kings" game from last years SYW convention.

I'm helping spread the word about this year's SYW convention. This is the premier 18th century war gaming convention in the USA and covers the period from the War of the Spanish Succession to the American Revolution, with a focus on the Seven Years War and French and Indian War. It will be held April 5th and 6th, 2013 at the Magnuson Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn), in South Bend, Indiana.

The guest speaker at the convention this year will be Dr. Christopher Duffy, who will host a round table on all things SYW and will also give a brief talk on  Hessian and Jacobite fighting qualities. This is a great con, with a bunch of friendly folks, who all have a passion for the SYW. Highly recommended if you can make it!

Check out the website for more info: http://www.sywconvention.com/

Here are some pictures of my 15mm SYW collection from a game we played last year:

Austrian battery in action! These are old cell phone pics, so please excuse the quality!

The Prussian advance! These are a mix of Old Glory, Editions Brokaw, Essex and Minifigs. My figures are mounted for the classic set of SYW rules "Koenig Krieg".

Clash of cavalry! These are mostly 15mm Old Glory figures.

A veteran unit of old Minifig Prussians advances! These guys have seen many a battle!

The Battle of Mill Springs 1862

The Battle of Mill Springs 1862

Last Saturday Al hosted a Regimental Fire and Fury game of the Battle of Mill Springs. As a nice twist, the game was hosted exactly on the 151st anniversary of the battle. "Lord" Al Gaiser hosted the game using his hordes of nicely painted 25mm ACW figures and great terrain. Here are a few pictures of the game:

Here's a link to some info on the battle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mill_Springs

The gamemaster -Lord Al - note his T-shirt!

A picture of the game from the CSA starting positions. The battle was a small, early war battle fought in KY, and was significant as an important early Union victory.

The end of the first turn. The Rebs have advanced! I played on the CSA side. I had to leave early in the action, but I heard that the CSA pulled out the win and everyone had a great time!

Al normally plays skirmish type games like "Brother against Brother", so he mounted his figs on magnetic bases for this game. These are some of his great looking 28mm Dixon figs.

A very nice command stand in Lord Al's collection.

Another view of Al's great terrain and figs!

The local wargaming store. This is a great place - if you are in the area be sure to swing by, buy some stuff, and say hi to the owner Baxter!
